MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Just like people, pools can get a little messy. If you’ve never had the joy of keeping one clean, the WREG investigation into one pool in Cordova found there are several factors that go into the cleaning process.

Pools are made of a hard plastic material that gets exposed to chemicals when chlorine or salt water mixes with dirt and chemicals.

Two investigators found leaks from faucets, some were wet and there were bugs on the walls and furniture. They also saw heavy layers of dust on the equipment, some with mold.

And don’t forget the actual swimming pool.

Pools and spas can get just as dirty and be an eyesore.

To make sure it stays clean, JoAnna Stubbs has a simple way.

“First thing I clean is the screens. That goes inside the skimmer pan and the skimmer pan,” she said.

Sandra Thornton said she cleans it with hot water and mild dish soap.

Do you use chlorine in your swimming pool? Many people do and it will kill all the bacteria. Bacteria can become dangerous when too much is present in the water.

To ensure your pool is a safe and clean place to swim, you need to clean it regularly. This cleaning process is called decontamination. It should be done twice a year.

To clean a pool, it is best to have all the water removed from it first. Then, you can do the decontamination. After that, you can clean the deck and pool area with a chemical cleaner.

A worker would only need a decontaminator that is approved for pools. A great choice is the Roto-Rooter Hydro Cleaner. This is also a great item for the pool.
